Trolley Test of Directional Speakers

March 26, 2024

As we have previously discussed, the Downtown Neighborhood Association is working with the city and tour companies concerning the amplification of sound coming from the trolleys roaming our neighborhoods.  As part of these discussions, Old Town Trolley has scheduled a test of a proposed directional speaker for Thursday, March 28 at 1:00 pm.  For those of you who may be interested in participating in the test we will begin at The Brice Hotel on Houston and E Bryan St.

For neighbors who live in Washington and Warren Wards, please let us know if you are able to hear the test inside your home or in your outside area.  We are interested in whether any sound can be heard a distance away from the trolley.

This directional system is one method of eliminating the noise from trolley tours.  Other companies may use other methods.  As mentioned in the newsletter, the City Manager is proposing an ordinance change in the coming months requiring the elimination of amplified sound emanating from motorized tours.
