President's Message - September 18, 2023

From the President:

I would like to thank those of you who attended the membership meeting last Tuesday. While it was unfortunate that Chief Gunther's slides couldn't be shown because of a projector problem, I found the conversation interesting and informative. I am impressed with the Chief's current and future strategies and wish him success in achieving his objectives. We have included a video of the presentation, along with the Chief's slides on our new and improved DNA website. Click here to see the presentation. Afterwards, browse the website to see some of the new features at the Resources tab and photos on the Community page.

Last Tuesday members of the Board attended the Metropolitan Planning Commission hearing concerning the planned development of four STVRs at 501 E Bay St. The outcome was that the petition to have the property removed from the STVR Overlay was continued until October 17. The attorney for the developer indicated that he would like to meet before that date to discuss plans for this lot. As this project progresses through the planning process, we will provide additional updates. Thanks to each of you who sent in emails or letters concerning your opposition to the overlay change.

I want to apologize to those of you who attempted to early vote for the vacant District Two seat on the Chatham County Commission and discovered, as Joyce and I did, that after redistricting last year we were now in another district. From the map online it appears that Liberty St is one of the dividing lines between District Two and Three. I encourage you to go to My Voting Page and verify your district before going to the polls tomorrow. Here is the link for you to check your voting status, polling place, and county and city districts.
