President's Message - March 11, 2024

From the President:

Reminders of some of the goings-on in our city this week and in the coming weeks:

Voting--tomorrow, Tuesday, March 12 is election day for the 2024 Presidential Primary.  If you did not vote during the early voting period, tomorrow is your last opportunity.

Historic Savannah Foundation--as part of National Women's Month, HSF is hosting the following:

Discover the vibrant creativity of local women artists during our Women's History Month sip and shop at the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy on Thursday, March 14. Browse a diverse range of artworks, shop for unique treasures, and enjoy a complimentary glass of bubbles or other drinks while mingling with the artists. Join us for an evening of celebration and support for our talented community members!

This event is free and open to the public from 4:30pm-6:30pm in the Historic Kennedy Pharmacy. (Habersham and E Broughton)

Massie Heritage Center--last week I spent some time with the supporters of the Friends of Massie and toured the gardens of the Massie Heritage Center. They are developing plans to refurbish the gardens and rebuild the historic walls around the center because they are collapsing. A fundraising effort is underway to support the project.

If you have not visited the Center, it is well worth touring the building and gardens to see what is being planned and why.  During the recent Taylor Square dedication, I was impressed with the number of speakers who described their time at Massie as students and what it meant to them. Its historic significance was made clear to me while hearing their stories and while visiting the creative exhibits on display that explain the history and significance of Savannah. The DNA has partnered with the Center for many years as part of the Holiday Tour of Homes and various speaker presentations. If anyone is looking for a worthy non-profit to support, Massie may fill the bill.

St. Patrick's Day--remember if you are interested in either walking with us or riding on the float, please sign up on the DNA website.  You do not have to ride or walk the entire route.  Bring a friend, your children or grandchildren, and let's have some fun.
