President's Message - January 6, 2025

From the President:

Happy New Year!  The Board hopes that each of you had a happy and safe holiday season.

Updates as we begin 2025:

Street Closures

As the renovation progresses on the Tomochichi Federal Courthouse, the work will require the closure of Whitaker Street from State to York Streets from January 20 through February 14.  Additionally, West York Street will be closed from Whitaker to Bull Streets from February 16 through March 14.

Membership Meeting

Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 21.  We will once again be meeting at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street.  The social period will begin at 5:30 and the meeting will start at 6.  Please make sure you RSVP below.

Our presentation at this meeting concerns future growth and expansion by the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA).  Reed Dulany, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Dulany Industries, Inc., will discuss alternatives to the Talmadge Bridge replacement and its planned height increase. The port has plans for continued growth that will benefit residents in Savannah.  However, as this growth and expansion occurs, we believe that residents should have some input into the process.  Residents need to be included in the discussion about this growth as it is our tax money that will be used to fund future expansion.

As you may already know, the GPA is currently expanding onto Hutchinson Island.  I have been told that this expansion alone may add 2,000 trucks crossing the Talmadge Bridge daily.  Continued expansion will only increase encroachment closer to downtown as well as into residential communities west of Martin Luther King, Jr Avenue.

So please join us as we open up discussions about the future of our city.
