President's Message - April 21, 2024

From the President:

Upcoming events in our community that may be of interest to you:

Civic Center Redevelopment

The City will be holding an open meeting for residents to discuss the planned redevelopment of the Civic Center site on Tuesday, May 7 from 6:00 to 8 pm.  The meeting will be held in the ballroom at the Civic Center.  Please attend if you are interested in providing input concerning the future of this site.

DNA Board Nominations

The nominating committee is now seeking candidates for the following positions on the DNA Board of Directors.  These are two-year terms.

  • President

  • Vice President

  • Communications Chair

  • Membership Chair

  • Tourism Quality of Life Chair

  • Historic District Board of Review/Metropolitan Planning Commission Liaison

  • Holiday Tour of Homes Chair

If you are interested in serving on the Board, please submit your nomination by April 25th to info@savannahdna.org.  The current incumbents, apart from the Holiday Tour of Homes Chair, will be running for their positions once again.  Please note that absent someone serving as the Chair of the Home Tour, we will not have a tour this year.

Local Elections

May 21 is the date for local elections in Chatham County.  On the ballot will be candidates for Judges, Sheriff, District Attorney, and the School Board.

In preparation of this election there will be two forums:

  • On Monday, April 29 at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6) there will be a forum for candidates running for Chatham County District Attorney.

  • On Monday, May 6 at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6) there will be a forum for the position of Chatham County Sheriff.

Both forums, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Coastal Georgia, will be held at the Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm St.

Annual Meeting and Picnic

Remember to "save the date" for our Annual Meeting and Picnic that will be held Thursday, May 16 beginning at 5:30 pm. This year the picnic will take place at The Collins Quarter at Forsyth Park. CLICK HERE TO RSVP

At the Annual Meeting, we will honor our 2024 grantees, 20 nonprofits that support our community. We also will recognize residents who make exceptional contributions to our neighborhood.  See last week's newsletter for more information about the categories. You can submit your nominations by email to info@savannahdna.org.  Please include photos for the beautification award.
