Group to Fund Neighborhood Projects

Letter to the Editor, Savannah Morning News February 12, 2023

Our community is generous, stands ready to help, and responds when called to action.

The epitome of these attributes is the support given by members and supporters of the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) who serve as part of the Holiday Tour of Homes and Inns held each December. More than $50,000 was raised from this year’s event, and now it is time to put those funds to work.

The DNA is now accepting proposals for its 2023 Community Grants Program. Using the funds raised by the tour, the DNA will bestow grants to community organizations that have an impact on the greater downtown area, particularly those that help or enrich the residential quality of life.

Each recipient goes through an application process and review by the DNA board of directors for selection.

Past grants have provided food and services for the needy, sponsored educational and athletic activities for children, addressed domestic violence issues, and supported the history and culture of Savannah, just to name a few examples.

Additional information and applications can be accessed from the DNA’s website: savannahdna.org. The deadline for submission is midnight on March 20.

As always, our thanks to those who help us carry out the DNA mission to protect the National Historic Landmark District’s architectural heritage, encourage restoration and beautification, safeguard Savannah’s unique downtown environment, and advocate public policies related to these goals.

David McDonald, president Downtown Neighborhood Association
