The Downtown Neighborhood Association of Savannah hosted a virtual meeting on Tuesday, January 18th at 6:00 p.m. Opening with neighborhood announcements, DNA President Debra Caldwell shared the good news that future in-person meetings will be held at the Coastal Georgia Center.

It was also announced that a membership drive and neighborhood competition will be getting underway soon to help welcome new neighbors into the DNA.

Officer Joshua Flynn with Savannah Police Department was online to share a couple of announcements:

    Regarding STVRs/AirBnBs:

It was noted that a couple of downtown rental units were found to have squatters after doors were left unlocked. STVR operators are reminded of the importance of securing their properties.

    License plate thefts:

A number of neighbors in different areas of the downtown neighborhood have had license plates stolen from vehicles recently. If this has occurred on your block, the SPD is asking for any surveillance or Ring camera footage neighbors may have. Please contact Officer Flynn: with any information.

    Homelessness in downtown Savannah:

In recent months, there has been an increase in homeless individuals in and around the downtown neighborhood and business districts. The SPD will be launching an initiative to identify these individuals and help direct them to resources and services available within our community. More information on this initiative is forthcoming.

Our program included Beth Nelson, Executive Director of Film Savannah and Susan Broker, Senior Director of the City of Savannah's Office of Special Events, Film and Tourism.

Ms. Nelson discussed recent developments within our region including stage and studio development, upcoming major network series filming as well as economic impact of the film industry in our region.

Ms. Broker shared good news that her team is growing and as positions are being filled, her office is able to tackle new initiatives such as the implementation of Nighttime Management, transportation "hub" at Ellis Square, permanent parklet program as well as a revision of the tour ordinance. Broker stated her office is well aware of the fatigue and overuse of many public spaces downtown and will soon be launching an effort for complete reimagining of these spaces and policy development. She also addressed concerns regarding litter in high-traffic areas of downtown. Questions may be directed to her office:
