You may recall during the beginning of COVID in 2020, the City worked with restaurants to provide outdoor dining opportunities. This was a way to help restaurants through the pandemic and provide customers an opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy Savannah’s many great restaurants.
The expanded outdoor dining took place in on-street parking spots and is commonly known around the world as a Parklet. Attached to this email is a presentation that was given to the Mayor and Aldermen during a workshop in December 2022. The presentation describes what parklets are, where they can be placed, and what they should look like. The presentation does not include proposed fees as City staff is still researching other communities and how they charge for this use.
The City is considering bringing the Parklet program back and allowing restaurants to establish Parklets permanently, or as long as the restaurant is in business. We would like to hear what your thoughts are about this proposed program.
This is a link to a short, 8-question survey, that will help us understand what you think about this proposal. We hope that you will share this email and survey to anyone you think might be interested in providing feedback about Parklets.
We will also be hosting a Public Meeting to discuss the Parklet proposal and hope you will be able to join us:
What: Parklet Public Meeting
Where: Coastal Georgia Center Auditorium
When: Wednesday, January 18th, 5:30PM
If you would like to discuss Parklets further or if you have any questions, please contact Tourism Coordinator, Rachel Buck, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
